Actavis Promethazine-Codeine is a prescription medication used to relieve symptoms associated with the common cold, flu, allergies, and respiratory illnesses such as sinusitis and bronchitis.

Active Ingredients & Their Functions:

• Promethazine: An antihistamine that alleviates symptoms such as watery eyes, itchy eyes, nose, or throat, runny nose, and sneezing.
• Codeine: An opioid cough suppressant (antitussive) that acts on a specific area of the brain to reduce the urge to cough.

Important Safety Information:

• This medication is not suitable for children under 18 years old due to an increased risk of serious or even fatal side effects, including breathing difficulties.
• Opioid-based cough suppressants should only be used under strict medical supervision. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor before use.
• Cough and cold medications do not cure colds. Many cold-related coughs resolve without medical treatment. Alternative relief methods include staying hydrated, using a humidifier, or applying saline nasal sprays.

How to Use Promethazine-Codeine:

• Dosage: Take as prescribed by your doctor, usually every 4 to 6 hours as needed.
• Administration: Swallow with or without food, accompanied by a full glass of water (240ml). If stomach discomfort occurs, take it with food.
• Hydration: Drink plenty of fluids unless otherwise directed by your physician.
• Measurement: Use an appropriate medical measuring device for accuracy—do not use a household spoon.
• Dosage Limits: Do not exceed the prescribed dose or duration, as doing so will not enhance effectiveness but may increase the risk of side effects.

Withdrawal & Dependence:

• If used for an extended period or in high doses, suddenly stopping this medication may cause withdrawal symptoms such as restlessness, watery eyes, runny nose, nausea, sweating, and muscle aches.
• To prevent withdrawal, your doctor may gradually reduce your dosage. If you experience withdrawal symptoms, notify your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
