PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION
Metamizole is an antipyretic from the antipyrine
(pyrazolone) group. It possesses pronounced
analgesic, antifebrile, antiinflammatory,
antineuralgic, antirheumatic, spasmolytic and
sedative properties. It eliminates the spasms of the
forestomachs and regulates their motor function. It
does not suppress the intestinal peristalsis.
Metamizole restricts the inflammatory edema. It is
well tolerated.

Analgin INDICATIONS

Catarrhal-spasmatic colic, meteorism and intestinal
constipation in horses; spasms of the uterine cervix
during birth; pains of urinary and biliary origin;
neuralgia and nevritis; acute gastric dilatation,
accompanied by severe colic attacks, for allaying
the irritability of the animals and preparing them for
stomach lavage in horses; esophageal obstruction;
joint and muscular rheumatism; for preparation of
surgical and obstetrical interventions.
SIDE EFFECTS
The continuous administration of high doses may
cause leukopenia, agranulocytosis. Irritation may
possibly occur after subcutaneous application.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
Simultaneous application with chlorpromazine,
barbiturates and phenylbutazone.
MODE OF ADMINISTRATION (Rp)
Intramuscularly, intravenously, subcutaneously
or intraperitoneally.
DOSAGE
Average dose 10 – 20 mg/kg b.w.
Intramuscularly and subcutaneously:
!For large ruminants: 20 40 ml
!For horses: 20 – 60 ml

!For small ruminants and pigs: 2 – 10 ml
!For dogs: 1 – 5 ml
!For cats: 0.5 – 2 ml
Intravenously (slowly), intraperitoneally:
!For large ruminants and horses: 10 – 20 ml
!For small ruminants: 5 ml
!For pigs: 10 – 30 ml
!For dogs: 1 – 5 ml
!For cats: 0.5 – 2 ml
The injection of Analgin may be repeated at the same
dose.
WITHDRAWAL PERIOD
For meat – 12 days after the last administration of the
preparation.
For milk – 4 days after the last administration of the
preparation.
In race-horses a withholding period of 5 days is
recommended before the race.
STORAGE
In the original container, well closed, in dry facilities,
protected from direct sunlight at temperature between 8 and
15°C.
SHELF LIFE
Three (3) years from the date of manufacture.
